Abstrak: Masalah pencemaran di Pantai Bali Selatan semakin rumit karena semakin padat dengan penduduk berikut dengan beragam kegiatannya.  Kegiatan-kegiatan tersebut berupa hotel, restaurant, pelabuhan, tempat rekreasi, tempat melasti dan kegiatan wisata bahari.  Sampel air laut diambil di tiga stasiun yaitu di Pantai Tanjung Benoa, Mertasari dan Sanur pada bulan Nopember 2006.  Ada 13 parameter kualitas air laut yang diukur. Kandungan BOD5 dan COD sangat rendah yang masing-masing berkisar 0,673 – 3,008 ppm dan 2,998 – 7,028 ppm yang mengindikasikan belum tercemar bahan organik.  Kandungan E. coli dan Coliform di Pantai Tanjung Benoa hingga Sanur juga sangat rendah yaitu berkisar 0-4 MPN/100 ml yang mencerminkan tidak tercemar tinja.  Lima dari 13 parameter kualitas air laut yang diukur telah melampaui baku mutu air laut untuk wisata bahari yaitu nitrat, fosfat, cadmium (Cd), chrom (Cr) dan timbal (Pb) yang mengarah ke masalah pencemaran pantai untuk selanjutnya perlu penanganan.  Perairan pantai yang diteliti sudah tercemar logam berat jenis Cd, Cr dan Pb yang masing-masing nilainya berkisar 0,019 – 0,026 untuk Cd, 0,018 – 0,019 ppm untuk Cr dan 0,028 – 0,034 untuk Pb.

Abstract: The problem of water pollution in southern Bali beach become more complicated because of high population including their activities variation. The activities namely hotels, restaurants and harbor.  Other activities are as recreation sites, traditional praying places and water recreation purposes.  Sea water samples were taken in three stations namely Tanjung Benoa, Mertasari and Sanur beach at November 2006.  There were 13 parameters of sea water quality measured. The value of BOD5 and COD were very low that vary of 0,673 – 3,008 ppm and 2,998 – 7,028 ppm respectively indicating not yet polluted by organic matter.  The content of E. coli and Coliform at Tanjung Benoa up to Sanur beaches were very low as well that the value of 0-4 MPN/100 ml which mean that it was not contaminated by faeces. Five of 13 parameters of sea water quality measured were over government standard for sea water recreation purposes namely nitrate, phosphate, cadmium (Cd), chrom (Cr) and lead (Pb) that tend to be a problem of beach polution that needs to be solved.  The coastal areas observed have been polluted by metals of Cd, Cr dan Pb with the content of 0,019 – 0,026 for Cd, 0,018 – 0,019 ppm for Cr and 0,028 – 0,034 for Pb.
